Grazing occultation of Aldebaran near Twin Cities

Post by Dick Jacobson »

Early on the morning of October 19 there will be a grazing occultation of Aldebaran by the Moon. The centerline happens to pass just north of Hastings, about where highway 10 branches off from 61. If you're near the centerline you may see Aldebaran wink on and off as the mountains at the Moon's limb pass in front of it. North of the centerline, you won't see any occultation; south of it the occultation will be total.

There is more information in the October Sky & Telescope, and a map at http://www.asteroidoccultation.com/obse ... /900ft.htm.
